Samsung Series 5 3G Chrome Book (Titan Silver)
Google, for a long time worked on the idea of having a laptop that is always connected and always on. This is based on their Chrome browser which helps instantaneous connectivity with the internet.
After the failure of CR 48 as a product, Samsung Series 5 3G Chrome Book (Titan Silver) is the next best thing that helps you stay on forever with Google Chrome. Samsung Series 5 is a cute range of notebooks that are sleek, stunning and are always connected. It comes with powerful 3G connectivity and an extra-long battery life.
The first thing that you will notice is the stunning, shiny metallic logos of chrome and Samsung. The entire system is furnished in rubberized plastic which is soft to touch. The notebook has a feel good factor about it. However, one must confess that it is more of a laptop than a notebook with its superior built and aesthetic design.
People who have been using chrome browser will get the hang of Chrome OS without any problem. Although, it will be incorrect to say that both are one and the same, the similarities cannot be ignored. Working on Google Chrome OS implies that you need to link you Google account with all the applications. The laptop is fast and starts the instant you
The change in design is visible from the fact that USB 2.0 and Video Output ports have been tucked under a discreet door. This is very similar to the design seen on the fancier Series 9 range of Laptops. The rounded shape of Samsung Series 5 3G Chrome Book (Titan Silver) gives it a fresh and appealing look. But make no mistake for this is one formidable piece of technological equipment. The machine weighs around 3.56 pounds and this is a bit heavy considering the device is only 12.5 inches.
The device comes with standard set of ports. The battery is non-removable and hence, the bottom of the device is more flat and clean. The keyboard is flat and the keys are well spaced. The keyboard feels sturdy even when hammering the keys while typing those urgent e mails. In this device, the function keys have been replaced with forward, backward and refresh keys. Previous users of Samsung laptops will have to adapt to this change.
The trackpad is a slight letdown. Although, two finger scrolling works very well, clicking is a bit slow to respond. Like any button less trackpad, this trackpad also confuses right click for the left one. This might be a dampener in this brilliant piece of technology.
The 12.1 inch screen houses a small 1 Megapixel camera. The display is very good and the viewing angles are not narrow. However, the picture gets washed out if one moves the screen forward. The matt finish and shine on the lid makes it difficult to view the screen in open sun light. Being a notebook, there is not much to write about the sound clarity. The sound clarity is average and the voice gets cranky when tuned in at full volume.
Overall, it’s an excellent device that is quick, compact and easy to use. It is definitely a device that gets all the checks in our list.
